The Laboratory and Field Handbook on Bovine Mastitis was first published in 1987
to bring uniformity to microbiological procedures for diagnosing bovine mastitis.
This revised edition, renamed the Laboratory Handbook on Bovine Mastitis,
is also intended to provide a reference standard for diagnosing mastitis that
includes current procedures, nomenclature, and epidemiological information. The
emphasis on the current edition is the appropriate use of microbiological diagnostic
procedures to differentiate pathogens causing mastitis, so that the most likely
sources of these microbes can be identified and eliminated within a herd.
This 222-page technical manual includes 44 color photos, 35 black and white photos, and over
20 figures and tables (see samples here). A complete listing of topics can be found in the
table of contents.
The Laboratory Handbook will be useful for diagnostic laboratories, researchers,
students, veterinarians, technical specialists, and others in the dairy industry
involved with mastitis control.
